Why You Should Make Money Doing What You Love

Importance of Money

The importance of money cannot be overemphasized. The Scriptures refer to it as both a defence1 and an answer to all things.2 Its importance has been compared to the very air we all breathe. The world, it is said, would stand still without it. In other words, money is what makes the world go round. We all know that with a lot of money in everyone’s possession, the world will be a better place. The world will be a peaceful place, lives will be prolonged, crime and criminality will be eradicated, so many dreams will be easily accomplished, etc. However, this is not the case. Why? Because money is a means of exchange.

Money as a Means of Exchange

The main reason why the benefits of money elude so many is because it is a means of exchange: one must have or do something in return for it. Money is not what one picks around. One must offer or do something in exchange for it. Some offer their time for it; others proffer their skills, products, or services in exchange for it. How much of it one makes is dependent (among other factors) on the value of what one is offering or doing in exchange for it. The more valuable it is, the more money one makes. In addition, love for what one does in exchange for money is key. Doing what one detests in exchange for money has grave consequences. As a result, understanding why one should engage in activities one is passionate about to earn money is very important.

Why You Should Make Money Doing What You Love

Considering the importance of money and the fact that it is one thing (including the air in our nostrils) that we will need throughout our lives, shouldn’t we then earn it by doing something we are passionate about instead of things we abhor or tolerate? I do not doubt that we all concur with the idea of doing what one is passionate about. Then, what are the benefits of doing what one loves for money?

  1. There is the possibility of making a lot of money. You will agree with me that the wealthiest individuals (past and present) in the fields of science, technology, sports, entertainment, automobiles, real estate, etc. are people passionate about what they did or are doing. For some of them, pursuing their dreams or interests has at the same time enriched them.
  2. It makes one generous and willing to assist others. The famous philanthropists we have around, the likes of Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, to name a few, are individuals passionate about what they do or did to become wealthy. You will agree with me that no one who earns money doing what he (or she) loathes will be liberal with it.
  3. It ensures a healthy and stress-free life. Doing what one tolerates or hates for money causes so much stress, anxiety, and tension, which can lead to illness. Whereas, engaging in ventures one is passionate about reduces stress, which impacts positively on one’s health.
  4. It makes one open to ideas and innovations that can enhance one’s performance and productivity.
  5. It makes one have the right mindset and attitude needed to be proficient at what one does.
  6. It enables one to persevere in the face of challenges.
  7. It offers satisfaction and fulfillment.
  8. It makes life enjoyable and worth living.
  9. Doing what one loves for money will encourage one to make sacrifices to keep at it.

In conclusion, the following should be taken to heart:

  1. Doing what one tolerates or hates for money may be required to enable one, in the long run, to begin a venture one is passionate about. So, one needs to find a way to persevere and plan towards one’s career transition.
  2. Doing what one loves may not make one a lot of money, particularly if it does not provide benefits or tangible value to others. In that case, finding a high-paying venture that will align with one’s passion will be necessary.
